ZachXBT Reports EVM Hack Affecting Hundreds of Wallets

admin

The on-chain sleuth said that a total of roughly $100,000 had been drained across hundreds of wallets in a yet-to-be resolved exploit.

Less than 24 hours into the new year, on-chain sleuth ZachXBT has reported what appears to be the year’s first crypto exploit, affecting hundreds of wallets.

ZachXBT shared the findings yesterday evening via Telegram, reporting that a total of $107,000 had been drained from across 20 different Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks, with each exploited wallet holding less than $2,000. According to deBank, the exploiters’ receiving address peaked at $109,000 before funds were transferred again.

A majority of the exploited funds were taken from Ethereum, with $55,000 taken from wallets with ETH balances. BNB Smart Chain (BSC) was home to the second largest number of victims, with a little over $25,000 drained.

The hack is ongoing, with the wallet receiving between $0.02 and $2 from different sources at a sporadic but high frequency.

Currently, the wallet holds just $7,000 worth of assets, with a majority still concentrated on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain.

Last weekend, the blockchain developed by the team behind CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot was exploited for nearly $4 million, sending its token down 40%.
