Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenAI have entered into a long-term partnership to support OpenAI’s growing computing needs.

The agreement, valued at $38 billion over seven years, gives OpenAI access to a large supply of AWS’s computing power. This includes hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA graphics chips, with room to grow to millions of CPUs as needed.

OpenAI has already begun using these services, and the full rollout is expected by the end of 2026, with the possibility of extending beyond that.

To meet these demands, AWS is building a custom system for OpenAI. It links NVIDIA GB200 and GB300 chips through Amazon EC2 UltraServers, which creates a connected system that keeps delays low and performance high.

This setup is built to handle a variety of tasks, such as powering ChatGPT or training future models, and can adjust as OpenAI’s work evolves.

By combining OpenAI’s research with AWS’s cloud tools, both companies aim to bring better AI tools to more people securely.

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, said that scaling artificial intelligence (AI) requires reliable computing systems and that this agreement helps build the foundation needed.

AWS CEO Matt Garman added that their infrastructure is well-suited to support OpenAI’s growing workloads and future plans.
